So, I’ve been on this kick lately, right? Trying to find a decent fake, not the real deal, of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch. I’m not talking about the fancy Duoface one, just the regular one with that plain metal back. I looked and looked, but man, it’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I did stumble upon some reviews of the Duoface model, dated back to September 4, 2022, and another one from April 24, but that’s not what I’m after.
Then I started thinking, what if I did come across a JLC watch, and I wasn’t sure if it was legit? There was this one post I saw where a guy was talking about a JLC watch, model number 295859, that’s been in his family forever. He googled it, and it came up as a Grand Sport model, which made him think the whole thing was fake. That got me worried, what if I buy a fake one? It seems like a minefield out there!
I dug a bit deeper and found that the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Septantieme Limited Edition has some kind of special in-house mechanical movement. Sounds fancy, but honestly, I wouldn’t know the first thing about it.

- They had all sorts of tags like “Jaeger-LeCoultre Q3848420” and “Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso 18k Gold.”
- Looked pretty legit, but who knows.
The Real Deal on Reversos
From what I gathered, the Reverso Tribute Chronograph is something special. It’s got the time on both sides and even a new way to show the chronograph, whatever that means. And it’s all fitted into this rectangular case. Pretty cool, I guess.
For the non-Duoface Reversos, they use something called the Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Caliber 822. It’s a manual-wind movement, and apparently, it’s slim. No idea what that means in the watch world, but it sounds high-tech.
So I found out that Jaeger and LeCoultre were two separate people, and they teamed up way back when. Their partnership led to some super-thin watch movements and eventually the creation of the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand in 1937. I’ve got to say that is really cool.
Apparently, since 1833, this brand’s been known for making watches that are both super complex on the inside and look really nice on the outside. The price of these watches can be all over the place, depending on the model, how old it is, how rare it is, and if people even want it.
And get this, each watch has a serial number on the movement, either on the back or under the dial face. But here’s the kicker – the case’s production year might be a year or two behind the movement’s year. Why would they do that? Who knows.
At the end of the day, I ended up with a watch that is a copy of a famous watch. It looks like the real thing, but it didn’t cost me a fortune. And honestly, it’s pretty nice. It’s got that classic Reverso look, feels good on my wrist, and I didn’t have to sell my car to get it.
