Alright, so, I’ve been messing around with something lately – trying to remake the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001. Yeah, I know, it’s a pretty ambitious project. I mean, this watch, it’s not just any watch. It’s a Patek Philippe. And this 6119G-001, it’s a special model. White gold, you know? A real thing of beauty.
I started by gathering as much information as I could. Scoured the internet, looked at a ton of pictures, and even tried to find some technical drawings. It was like a treasure hunt, piecing together bits of information from all over the place. But let me tell you, finding detailed specs on this thing is not easy.
- First, I focused on the case. This 6119G-001, the real one is made from white gold. Now, I ain’t using real gold here, obviously. I’m using some stainless steel that I’m trying to make look like white gold. It is quite a challenge, I must say, trying to get the right finish, the right shine, that subtle difference that tells you, “Hey, this isn’t just your run-of-the-mill metal.”
- Then came the dial. Oh boy, the dial. So many tiny details! I spent days just trying to get the font right for the numerals. And those hands, they’re so slender, so elegant. Replicating that was tough. I used some thin metal pieces, shaped them as best as I could, and hoped for the best.
- The movement, well, that’s a whole other story. I’m not even going to pretend I could remake that. It’s like a well-oiled machine, so intricate, so precise. I just picked up a cheap quartz movement and fitted it inside. It keeps time, and that’s good enough for me.
I also read somewhere that real Patek Philippe watches have a hallmark on the case-back that shows the purity of the metal. For gold, it’s “750,” which means 18k gold. Now I did not even know about this. Tried to engrave something similar on mine, just for the fun of it. Probably doesn’t look anything like the real thing, but hey, I tried.
The strap was the easiest part. Just got a plain leather strap and attached it. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.
So, after weeks of working on this thing, tweaking, adjusting, and sometimes starting over, I finally had something that resembled a Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001. It’s far from perfect, of course. But you know what? I’m pretty proud of it. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. I can still appreciate the artistry that goes into it. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even get to see a real 6119G-001 in person.
