I found this Hamilton Intra-Matic which was pretty close in style, and I thought it could be a good starting point.
The Process
I started by taking apart the Hamilton watch. Let me tell you, taking apart a watch is way harder than it looks. There are so many tiny screws and parts that you can easily lose. I laid everything out carefully on my workbench, making sure not to lose anything. Then, I started modifying the parts to match the Calatrava’s design. I filed down the case, polished it, and did my best to reshape it. It was a lot of trial and error, but I was determined to get it right. There have been dozens of Calatrava watches over the years, and I wanted to try to add something new to it.
The Dial
The dial was the hardest part. I wanted to recreate that beautiful black dial of the 5227G-010, but finding a dial that matched was nearly impossible.
